Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage 2020
The 2020 vintage was shaped by fire and drought — a difficult year that eliminated lesser producers from the market and concentrated the best estates on survival over volume. Roy Estate navigated it with uncommon precision. The result is a wine of uncommon intensity.
Scarcity and adversity are not marketing tools here. 2020 Napa saw significant smoke exposure across the valley floor; Roy Estate, elevated and wind-exposed, largely escaped. What remains in the glass is dense, dark, and uncompromising — and there is very little of it.
An extreme vintage by any measure: record heat, wildfires throughout Northern California, and one of the driest seasons on record. Yields were dramatically reduced. Wines that succeeded are marked by concentration and complexity; those that failed show smoke taint and imbalance.
